What's this calculator for?
The purpose of this calculator is to give an environmental assessment of a functional unit, i.e. a user path according to measurable criteria on which the various digital design professions can act.
What is a functional unit?
A functional unit consists of defining a user path on a digital service. For instance:
Order a white tee shirt for men on the ecommerce website XX or
Look for a tip to buy women's skis on the XX site.
We do not model the impact of a single page because it is only viable for a complete business act.
Which environmental indicator?
The calculator uses the Greenhouse Gas environmental indicator to assess the environmental impact.
Possible modeling
Two models are proposed:
- Simple: when the technical parts are not easily accessible
- Complete: when a major part of the data is accessible. It is often necessary to have the help of technical people.
The visibility of the application will automatically connect to the diagnosis delivered by Google's PageSpeed Insight.
Environmental Calculation Greenhouse Gases
Page impact - EcoIndex
Calculation based on EcoIndex.
At least 2g CO2eq per web page displayed + calculation depending DOM complexity / HTTP requests and Page size.
The 2g CO2eq impact is calculated according to a LCA from a large website.
Impact of 1GB stored in the Cloud for one year
Calculations made on the assumption of a 40TB storage bay used 6 years redundant.
The use phase is evaluated according to the impact factors of different countries.
Impact of API
API transfers or other inter-server transfers (also called M2M - Machine To Machine)
do not include the end user's restitution part, which corresponds to 60% of the CO2 impact eq
.
As a result, the impact of an API flow is equivalent to 40% of the impact of a conventional flow (i.e.
40% of 2g CO2eq). (Source: GreenIT)
Maturity calculation
Each question is scored out of 10 for maturity.
The functional part is rated out of 100 because the eco-design is based on 60%.
on reducing the functional scope.
